Last weekend, Woodhey High School’s Year 10 students enjoyed an exciting residential trip to PGL Caythorpe Court, creating unforgettable memories while taking part in a range of adventurous outdoor activities.

Students departed on Friday and were greeted by glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures of 32°C, making it one of the hottest days of the year. Despite the heat, students embraced every opportunity to challenge themselves, develop new skills and work together throughout the weekend.

A packed programme of activities ensured there was never a dull moment. Students tested their balance and confidence during paddleboarding sessions, demonstrated impressive accuracy during axe throwing, and took on the thrilling Quick Jump challenge. Many also pushed themselves outside their comfort zones on Jacob’s Ladder, where teamwork, communication and determination were essential to reach the top. Laser Tag proved to be another highlight of the weekend, with students enjoying friendly competition and tactical teamwork.

As the sun began to set on Saturday evening, students gathered around the campfire to enjoy a classic PGL experience. Everyone enjoyed making and eating s’mores while sharing stories from the day’s activities. Adding to the atmosphere, Henry entertained the group by playing guitar, with students joining in to sing along to a variety of songs, including the Oasis classic Married With Children. The campfire quickly became one of the highlights of the weekend, bringing everyone together for an evening of music, laughter and friendship.

Afterwards, students came together to watch England’s World Cup match, creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout the centre. Proudly supporting the Three Lions, students cheered every goal, tackle and save, making it one of the most memorable evenings of the trip.

The trip was not without its memorable moments. On Sunday evening, students and staff were treated to an unexpected adventure when Kingston accidentally became trapped in the bathroom when the lock had broken. Thankfully, the situation was quickly resolved, and the incident provided plenty of laughter and stories that will no doubt be remembered for years to come.

Throughout the weekend, students demonstrated excellent behaviour, resilience and enthusiasm. They supported one another through challenges, encouraged their peers and represented the school brilliantly at all times.

Miss Holdsworth, Trip Leader, said:

“Trips such as this provide invaluable opportunities for students to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork outside of the classroom. It was wonderful to see our Year 10 students embracing every challenge, supporting one another and making the most of the fantastic opportunities available at Caythorpe Court. I am incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the weekend and know they will remember this experience for many years to come.”

I would like to thank the Year 10 Pastoral staff, Form Tutors and Mr Topping who gave up their time to support the residential and the team at PGL Caythorpe Court for delivering such a memorable experience.

Everyone returned home with plenty of stories to tell, new friendships strengthened and memories that will last a lifetime.
