Woodhey High School was filled with the sound of music on Thursday 2nd October as the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra paid a special visit for a full day of performances. The orchestra, renowned for its world-class musicianship, delivered three electrifying concerts throughout the day — including one tailored for pupils from local primary schools. Audiences were treated to a dynamic programme ranging from classical masterpieces such as Bach’s Toccata and Fugue and Grieg’s Hall of the Mountain King — familiar to many from the Alton Towers advert — to the Latin rhythms of Mambo from West Side Story. The orchestra also brought a modern twist with music from a popular video game (Plants vs Zombies), while taking time to explain the roles of different instruments and the techniques behind their performance, offering students a rare and inspiring insight into the world of orchestral music.

'They were absolutely fantastic, and it was incredible to see how professional and talented each and every one of them was!' - Ethan, year 11
